Sacraments

Baptism

"By Baptism we become members of the Church, the Body of Christ."

In order to be baptized at St. James Basilica, you must first attend a Baptismal Class with a preist prior to the scheduled baptism.  An exception is made for families that have recently had and baptised an older child.  If you have attended a class in the last 5 years you would just need to call and schedule the baptism.  Call  or email the Parish Office (701.252.0119 or parish@stjamesbasilica.org) to register for the class if you had a recent birth or are expecting in your family.

Reconciliation

"Penance is an experience of the gift of God's boundless mercy."

Students make their First Reconciliation when they are in second grade. If your child is older than second grade and has not received this Sacrament, or if you have not received this Sacrament, contact the Faith Formation Office (252.0478) for more information.

St. James Basilica Confession Schedule
Monday-Friday 11:30am-12pm
Saturday 7:20am-7:50am & 3:30pm-4:50pm
Or you may call the parish office (701.252.0119) to make an appointment with a priest.

Confirmation

"In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized person is "sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit" and is strengthened for service to the Body of Christ."

In the Fargo Diocese, most students receive the Sacrament of Confirmation during their third grade year. This is conferred at the same Mass as their First Holy Communion.

For more information call the Faith Formation Office at 701.252.0478 or email ffsecretary@stjamesbasilica.org.

Holy Eucharist

"Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.'"  John 6:35

In the Fargo Diocese, First Holy Communion is celebrated at the same
Mass as Confirmation for most students and occurs during their third grade year.

For more information call the Faith Formation Office at 701.252.0478 or email ffsecretary@stjamesbasilica.org.

Marriage

"Man and woman were created for each other."

I just got engaged, what do I need to do to schedule a Catholic Wedding?

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on your engagement! We are very excited for you and your fiance and look forward to meeting with you to help you prepare for the Sacrament of Matrimony.

In order to get married at St. James Basilica, or any other Catholic Church, you must contact the parish office to make an appointment with a priest eight months prior to the selected wedding date. This amount of time is necessary because there are certain requirements for classes/retreats/meetings and without ample time, schedule conflicts are inevitably going to arise. If you are past the eight month point, contact the parish office ASAP for assistance.

Holy Orders

"Becoming a priest or a man or woman religious is not primarily our own decision.... Rather it is the response to a call and to a call of love."
Pope Francis, Address to Seminarians and Novices, July 6, 2013

If you are discerning a call to the priesthood or religious life, please contact the Parish Office at 701.252.0119 or parish@stjamesbasilica.org to schedule a time to meet with a priest.

Anointing of the Sick

"Jesus came to heal the whole person, body and soul."

Anointing of the sick can be administered to a member of the faithful who, after having reached the use of reason, begins to be in danger due to sickness or old age.  This sacrament can be repeated should the person again fall sick, or if a situation evolves and/or worsens.

If you or a loved one is in need of this Sacrament, please notify the Parish Office (701.252.0119) and a priest will come for a pastoral visit.
